While both Hajj and Umrah are pilgrimages to Makkah, there are significant differences:
## Obligation
- Hajj is obligatory once in a lifetime for those who can afford it (5th pillar)
- Umrah is recommended (Sunnah) but not obligatory
## Timing
- Hajj has specific dates (8th-13th of Dhul-Hijjah)
- Umrah can be performed any time of year
## Rituals
- Umrah: Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'i, Halq/Taqseer
- Hajj: All Umrah rituals + Arafat, Muzdalifah, Mina, Stoning the Jamarat
## Duration
- Umrah: A few hours to complete
- Hajj: 5-6 days of rituals
## Cost
- Umrah is generally less expensive
- Hajj costs more due to longer stay and additional arrangements
